Our main aim is to give you Salsa classes in a fun and friendly environment; we have achieved this and more with our reputation for fun and friendly Salsa nights going far and wide!
We teach any age range, from 18 upwards! (I teach children and teenagers as part of my private work and events)
Most people turn up by themselves, though we have couples and groups of friends too. Anyone that turns up by themselves is quickly made to feel very welcome and part of the group.
We pride ourselves in producing some of the best dancers in Bristol and the South West who in turn help our new beginners start on their dancing journey.
Anyone that wants to learn to dance we will teach!
I started dancing Salsa in 2001, dancing Salsa twice a week for the first year and fast built up to three and four times a week, (have now hit a record 8 times in one week!).
From my first few years dancing Salsa to present, I have learnt fantastic moves with teachers such as Rohan Brown, Nicolai and Helena, Mauricio, Moe Flex, Nico Valiente, Gary & Jayne, Andy Witt, Lee Hunter, Miguel & Mayana, Marchant Birch and many more.
I started learning and dancing Bachata (Italian style) in 2004 (self taught) also with classes from Tony Lara and now classes from other top instructors in the world with the original Dominican style and fusion styles of Bachata.
In 2005 my development as a Salsa dancer and then teacher grew dramatically, concentrating on dance technique with teacher Andy Witt from Cardiff. Thanks to him my Salsa dancing has been taken to a whole new level and has allowed me to become a more confident dancer and teacher. My Salsa dance style is predominantly cross-body with a fun enthusiasm injected into every dance with more than enough stamina.
My teaching began on an informal basis in the Salsa clubs I danced in, helping beginners start off on a happy step and encourage them to come back again. I would always dance with anyone and everyone, my motto being ‘make each dance fun and special’.
I now teach across the country and have taught for the most respected Salsa and Latin dance schools in the country including Mambo City, London. Salsa Souls is now regarded as the best Latin Dance school in the South West with students becoming great dancers in no time at all!
In my own Salsa classes I aim to teach Salsa in a fun and enthusiastic way concentrating on the basics/fundamentals of Salsa dance. I want to show people how easy salsa can be to learn and how much smoother it can be led and followed. Also most importantly, how much fun you can have with Salsa dance. I hope to see you soon for a dance or two. For private Salsa/Bachata/Cha Cha & Merengue classes or to learn some dance steps for your wedding dance and Hen parties email Stellan.
I’ve been dancing Salsa since 2002 and started teaching in 2009. I now teach improvers level Salsa as well as beginners. I also teach two other Latin partner dances, Bachata and Cha Cha Cha and I teach ladies styling workshops (arm and body work).
I was by no means a natural Salsa dancer when I started, however there’s a great social aspect to Salsa too and that’s what kept me coming back for so long until it “clicked”. Like anything, Salsa is a skill that anyone can learn, and everyone learns at their own pace. I absolutely love teaching and seeing just how quickly people can learn to dance given some encouragement and clear easy guidelines.
In our beginners’ classes, people start to feel relaxed, build confidence and overcome any inhibitions, we all have some fun and the magic of learning starts to happen. I used to be surprised by how many people became Salsa addicts after only a few classes, but now I've discovered that it is in fact very common. After all, what could be better than a night out with music, dancing and good friends? (And yes, there is alcohol at the bar.)
Having learned to lead (dance the man’s part) as well as follow (the lady’s part) I appreciate the different challenges both male and female dancers face as they are learning. I always aim to help people progress in the easiest way possible whilst ensuring they are given good technique from the start that will underpin their dancing as they progress onto more complicated moves.
I attend national congresses, regular classes and specialist workshops to keep improving my own skills. Learning from some of the best dancers in the country and in the world over the years including: Miguel and Mayana, Helena and Nicolai, Marchant and Davina, Gary and Jane, Shelly, Andy Witt, Iris de Brito, Irene Miguel, Edie the Salsa Freak to name a few.
Yes, I’m still addicted and I look forward to dancing with you soon.
